Preamble

The World Food Programme/Nutrition Support Programme is a unit in the Ministry of Health and the Environment; its accounting head is listed as number 674 in the Estimates of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

History:

The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines signed and ratified the UN Convention of the rights of the child in 1993. Article Six (6) of this convention contains the principles for child development, protection and survival, it also emphasizes that parents of children and the State have a joint responsibility for raising those children.
In an effort to adhere to these principles, the Government introduced a school feeding programme on February 3rd, 1984. During the period 1984 - 1996 the programme was funded by the United Nations World Food Programme.
From the 1st January 1997 to the present, this programme has been financed by the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
