Regional HIV Testing Day is commemorated each year on June 27th.

The Regional HIV Testing Day provides an opportunity to create awareness about HIV and to increase access to HIV testing services. Regional HIV Testing Day is an important entry point to HIV prevention, care, treatment and support. Getting tested and knowing your status will help persons to make informed choices on how they can either avoid HIV infection if negative, or if positive, live positively with care, treatment and support.

A global target is set to accomplish the 90-90-90 goals by 2020, whereby 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status, 90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained anti-retroviral therapy, and 90% of all people receiving anti-retroviral therapy will have viral suppression.

This year, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will observe this day on Friday June 26th 2020, with three (3), days of island-wide testing (24th - 26th June, 2020), at health centers and civil society organizations, such as the Planned Parenthood Association.  The commemoration will be held under the theme “HIV Testing: Key to reaching 90-90-90 target” #knowyourstatus #gettested.

The overarching objective of this special initiative is to:

  • Increased public participation in the critical importance of voluntary counselling and testing in preventing the spread of HIV infection,
  • Mobilize the population to be tested, and
  • Reduce HIV stigma and discrimination.
