The Ministry of Health, Wellness & the Environment, is appealing for more to be done to promote and assist breast feeding among mothers with young children, throughout the country.
This appeal was made by Mrs. Andrea Robin, Chief Nutritionist, as the country observed "World Breastfeeding Week".
Mrs. Robin said that breastfeeding takes place in high numbers from birth at hospitals, with more than ninety percent, but this rate is reduced dramatically, especially when breastfeeding mothers have to return to work.
Mrs. Robin made an appeal to Early Childhood Education centers, to have facilities where breast milk can be stored to feed babies whose mothers have to return to work.
She also appealed to workplaces to be more flexible with mothers who have young children to ensure that these babies receive the optimal care from their working mothers.
