chikungunya virus

Chairman of the National Surveillance Committee in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Rosmond Adams, said that the spread of the Chikungunya virus will be difficult to control if Vincentians do not support the Ministry’s efforts to contain the disease.

Dr. Adams said that there are now over seven hundred confirmed cases of the Chikungunya Viral Disease in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

He said that the Ministry is continuing efforts to contain the outbreak, and he outlined a number of areas where officials have intensified measures to destroy the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito which spreads the disease.

Dr. Adams noted that there are still too many misconceptions about how chikungunya is spread.
