The Ministries of Education and Health, Wellness and the Environment, jointly conducted a workshop on nutrition, food safety and meal planning for all school-feeding staff in schools and other child care agencies.

This workshop was a follow-up to the three School Nutrition Project workshops funded by the Mustique Charitable Trust in July 2014 and provided nutrition training for food service workers who missed the training provided.  The workshop took place on Tuesday 27th January at the Red Cross Building.

The aim of this workshop was  to increase the knowledge and skill base of school-feeding staff and school-based food vendors in the nutrition and food needs of school children, food safety and meal planning for healthy school meals, using the National Dietary Guidelines and Nutrition Standards for School Meals.

The workshop was co-ordinated by School feeding Program Co-ordinator, Ms. Vicklyn Job; with presentations from Chief Nutritionist, Mrs. Andrea Robin; Ms. Job; Senior Nutritionist, Ms. Joyce Burgin; and Assistant Nutritionist, Ms. Wendy Michael. Chief Education Officer, Ms. Loanne Gilchrist, delivered remarks at the opening session. Approximately thirty participants from the School Feeding Program in primary schools all over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the food service staff at the Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre and the Salvation Army benefitted. They are expected to put their training into practice at their workplaces for the benefit of the children they feed every day.
