On Thursday, 6th April, 2023 the Ministry of Health received a donation of supplies from the Republic of China on Taiwan (ROC) through a private foundation.
The items include 120 wheelchairs for adults, 25 wheelchairs for children, 80 walkers and 40 commode chairs as well as 200 canes.
Minister of Health Hon. St Clair Prince said the donation will go a long way in helping those who are living with the effects of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD)’s especially diabetes and assist some of the most vulnerable, especially amputees.
“I am very grateful to the foundation…these wheelchairs no doubt will go a long way in our rehabilitative effort with respect….to amputations and these wheelchairs will come in very handy in that regard…and I think persons who have had amputations of the lower limbs will be now using some of these wheelchairs as they leave the hospital…,” Prince remarked.
Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan Ambassador Peter Sha-Li Lan said the donations were made through a well-known Taiwanese benefactor and his foundation, and he hopes this is the beginning further co-operation between the foundation and the Ministry of Health.
“We hope this batch of donations…will greatly assist Vincentians who are in great need,” the Ambassador stressed.
The handing over took place at the Ministry of Health’s Conference Room. Just two weeks ago, the Republic of China on Taiwan made a donation of 240 thousand dollars worth of emergency medical supplies to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
